What is PATH: Platteville Art, Trails, and History project – PATH – is a community arts and culture project initially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town program. The goal of PATH is to bring the community together to decide what makes Platteville special and how we can use arts and culture to promote these special qualities and make our community an even better place. Out of the initial grant project a Creative Community Plan was written and shared, and the Chalk and Cheese Festival was started.
PATH is led by dedicated volunteers and is a subcommittee of the Rountree Gallery. Rountree Gallery is a longstanding community art gallery dedicated to supporting the arts and cultural activities in the Platteville, Grant County, and the Tri-State region. Rountree Gallery has been in existence for over 40 years and focuses current efforts on being a high quality gallery space for local, regional, and nationally based artists, as well as promoting the creative economy and hosting events and workshops. Like PATH, Rountree Gallery is an all-volunteer led organization.
In 2022 PATH officially became a subcommittee of the Gallery and primarily focuses their efforts on the Annual Chalk and Cheese Festival. This Festival was the culminating event following the 2 year NEA “Our Town” Project, and continues to grow each year
